Congressman Turner, Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 4038 – American SAFE Act.

“America has a long and proud history of sheltering those in need. However, we have a responsibility to balance those humanitarian beliefs with the safety and security of all Americans. The American SAFE Act requires the nation’s top security officials—the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Director of the FBI, and the Director of National Intelligence—to review before admitting any refugees into the United States.  The safety and security of the American people must always be our number one priority.”

Congressman Turner sent a letter to President Obama on November 18th requesting any intelligence that led to the conclusion ISIL is ‘contained’. The President’s statements on containment, and the diminishing threat posed by ISIL continue to conflict with assessments provided to Congress.
