As our men and women in uniform return home from serving our country, many are left looking to their next opportunity. While some will remain in the armed services, others will transition back to being civilians. Since coming to Washington, I have worked closely with the military and veterans community to ensure our heroes can successfully transition back to civilian life.

Most veterans who leave service will enter the civilian job market. These men and women offer superior leadership and management experience, which every company should utilize. I know this first hand. I work to employ veterans in my own office and work with many throughout our community and on Capitol Hill.

Congressman Mike Turner Tours TQL

Earlier this week, I toured Total Quality Logistics (TQL) a local Ohio company looking to expand their company in Centerville. There, I met with a number of staff members, many of which are veterans. It is great to see local companies expanding in our community. In the process, they contribute to the growth of our local economy and attract new jobs. It’s even better to see companies hiring our heroes after they have done so much in service of our nation.

This past Congress, I was proud to co-sponsor and support legislation to further this admirable goal. The VOW to Hire Heroes Act, was passed by both the House and Senate with broad bipartisan support and was signed into law by President Obama. This law is focused on veteran unemployment. It aims to reduce veteran unemployment by retraining veterans, and making them more competitive in today’s job market. Over the years, I have and will continue to support our veteran community. Our veterans and their families sacrifice so much to ensure that our country remains safe. We have owe a large debt to the servicemember community. It is only right that we honor them by ensuring they are fully prepared to succeed in civilian life.
