Turner to Host U.S. Service Academy Day
As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, I have the responsibility of nominating a select number of students from Ohio's 10thCongressional District for admission to each of the five United States service academies.
On Saturday, April 13, 2013, I will host the United States Service Academy Day. I am pleased to announce that representatives from each of the service academies will be in attendance. Each year, the Academy Day program provides a unique opportunity for all students to meet with service academy representatives to discuss the educational opportunities and rewarding experiences available to those who chose to serve their country.
Congressman Mike Turner Nominates Four Local Students for Appointment to U.S. Military Service Academies
Receiving a nomination is only the first step in the process of being appointed to a service academy. In addition to the nomination, students must qualify academically and are subject to character, leadership, and physical fitness evaluations. Full details to the appointment process can be found on my website at: https://turner.house.gov.
Our nation's men and women in uniform have the tremendous responsibility of protecting our freedoms and keeping our nation safe. The Service Academies each play a unique role in our nation's history and security, and offer a world-class education not found anywhere else.
Once appointed, cadets and midshipmen will receive a world-class education not found anywhere else, and follow in the legendary footsteps of distinguished graduates like former President and Supreme Allied Commander - U.S. General of the Army Dwight Eisenhower, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, and U.S. Air Force Colonel and NASA Astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin to name a few.
I look forward to meeting with the students and families who are ready to accept the challenge of becoming a leader and serving their country.
