Eight months after Congress passed toxic asset relief, a growing number of Americans, including many in Congress, are questioning government bailouts. Furthermore, a poll shows more Americans want the President's stimulus spending program halted. Both programs have thus far failed to achieve their goal of strengthening the economy and their ballooning of the federal budget deficit will ultimately do more harm than good. .

Although I am concerned with the top-line cut to missile defense, I am deeply concerned about the specific cuts to our national missile defense system. .

Two weeks ago, America received a loud wake-up call from a rogue nation intent upon achieving a nuclear weapons capability. The timing of this event could not be more significant. This week the U.S. House begins drafting the new defense budget, and will consider whether or not to incorporate the Obama Administration's request for deep cuts in missile defense capabilities that protect the U.S. homeland. .

Here in Highland County we are fortunate to have a strong, effective Community Action Organization. On two occasions this year, I've had the opportunity to spend time with the leadership of the Highland County Community Action Organization and learn first-hand the benefits they bring to the community. .
