On June 23rd, 2010 the House Majority Leader said the House could not pass a budget until the bipartisan Commission on Deficit Reduction makes its recommendations – at the end of the year, after Election Day. Then a week later, he said the Majority will not draft a budget; they will "deem" it passed so they can begin to approve unfunded spending bills. .

For nearly seven months this year, Congress has failed to produce a budget. Each day, red ink continues to flow from Congress, further damaging the American economy.

Today, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce approved legislation sponsored by Representatives Michael R. Turner (R-Ohio) and Betty Sutton (D-Ohio) that would hold foreign manufacturers legally accountable to American consumers injured by dangerous or defective products and to help hold foreign manufacturers to the same product safety standards that American manufacturers are. .

Only a few days after our country celebrated its 234th birthday this July 4, I had the honor to visit with our men and women in uniform in Afghanistan. I was inspired by the sacrifices our soldiers – and their families – make, day in and day out. I was grateful to have the opportunity to thank them in person and to bring the greetings of a proud nation from half a world away. .
