WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representatives Mike Turner (OH-10), David Scott (GA-13), and Andrew Garbarino (NY-02) reintroduced the Protect Lifesaving Anesthesia Care for Veterans Act, bipartisan legislation to ensure that the Department of Veterans Affairs physicians continue to provide our nation's veterans with the highest standards of care. Specifically, this bill would prevent the VA from removing expert physician anesthesiologists from the department's current model of anesthesia care.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressmen Mike Turner (OH-10) and Earl Blumenauer (OR-03), co-chairs of the Historic Preservation Caucus, along with Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03), and Congressman Mike Carey (OH-15) introduced legislation to reauthorize the Historic Preservation Fund. This bipartisan legislation will extend the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF), which rehabilitates significant historic sites, for 10 years. It is currently set to expire on September 30, 2023.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Mike Turner (OH-10), Representative Shontel Brown (OH-11), Representative Dave Joyce (OH-14), and Representative Deborah Ross (NC-02) introduced the Fighting Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Act of 2023. The bipartisan, bicameral legislation aims to combat the rising rates of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) amongst first responders and to address the long-term mental health consequences associated with PTSD. Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Chris Coons (D-DE) have introduced companion legislation and are leading the effort in the United States Senate.

Congressman Turner noted the emerging nuclear threats posed by adversaries like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea and the challenges these threats pose to existing missile defense architecture. As these actors continue to invest in new offensive nuclear capabilities, Congressman Turner emphasized that the United States must stay on the path chartered by President Reagan during the Cold War and invest in technology that can offset a nuclear strike.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representatives Michael Turner (OH-10), David Trone (MD-06), John Rutherford (FL-05) and Paul Tonko (NY-20) reintroduced the bipartisan, bicameral Due Process Continuity of Care Act. The bill amends a portion of the Medicaid Inmate Exclusion Policy (MIEP), which denies Medicaid coverage to eligible individuals being detained pre-trial. Specifically, this bill is aimed at ensuring pretrial detainees receiving substance abuse treatment can continue such routines, reducing the rates of overdose and recidivism post-detainment. Last year, a version of this legislation was signed into law, allowing eligible juvenile detainees to continue to receive such benefits.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representatives Mike Turner (OH-10), Jared Golden (ME-02), Claudia Tenney (NY-24), and Dan Kildee (MI-08) introduced the Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC) Reauthorization Act of 2023, which would reauthorize the tax credit through 2027. The HCTC provides refundable tax credits to cover more than 70 percent of the cost of health insurance premiums for certain retirees whose pensions have been taken over by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representatives Mike Turner (OH-10), Paul D. Tonko (NY-20), John Rutherford (FL-05), and David Trone (MD-06) today introduced the Reentry Act, bipartisan legislation that empowers states to restore access to healthcare, including addiction and mental health treatment, through Medicaid for incarcerated individuals up to 30 days before their release. Senators Mike Braun (R-IN) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) are introducing companion legislation in the Senate.

Their bill addresses alarming data showing that individuals released from incarceration are 129 times more likely to die of a drug overdose during the first two weeks after release.

Following Finland's ascension, it is my hope that Sweden will be swiftly approved to join the strategic alliance."
