Washington, DC- Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) received the "Guardian of Small Business Award" from the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB). The award is NFIB's most prestigious legislative award and is earned by lawmakers who voted with small businesses on key issues 70% or more of the time during the 117th Congress.

This Congress, Turner has a perfect score, voting with small business 100% of the time, and has maintained that average over the last eight years.

"Small businesses are the backbone of our economy," said Turner. "As the former Mayor of Dayton, I worked closely with many small business owners and have had the unique opportunity to continue fighting on their behalf in Congress. With inflation rates at historical highs, it is critical that Congress continue to ease the economic hardships and pass legislation that allows small businesses to flourish."

"The NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award is presented to members of Congress who have proven themselves to be real champions of small businesses," said NFIB President and CEO Brad Close. "This Congress, small businesses emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic but faced continual threats of high inflation, workforce shortages, and supply chain disruptions. These NFIB Guardians demonstrated strong support of small businesses on key issues. NFIB is unique in that we only represent small and independent businesses, and our members decide our policy positions. We are proud to recognize the elected officials from the 117th Congress who earned this distinction by taking pro-small business votes that supported an extension of the Paycheck Protection Program and opposed tax increases, new mandates, increased legal liability, and problematic employment law revisions that would have threatened Main Street's economic recovery. NFIB commends Rep. Turner for earning the Guardian of Small Business Award.

Throughout the 117th Congress, Turner has supported a number of bills to support small businesses and their employees, including the Paycheck Protection Program Act. In 2021, $820 million in federal assistance was awarded by the Small Business Administration to OH-10, which allowed for 7,300 local small businesses to receive loans. These loans helped support 1 in 3 jobs and retain as many as 35,562 jobs in the Miami Valley area.
