Congressman Michael R. Turner announced the United States House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution congratulating the University of Dayton men's basketball team for winning the 2010 National Invitation Tournament basketball championship. H.Res. 1456 had the support of the entire Ohio Congressional Delegation.
“The University of Dayton Men’s Basketball Team is a significant part of the culture around campus and the downtown area,” Congressman Turner said. “UD has been in the NCAA's top 35 in home attendance every season since UD arena opened in 1969. The students, faculty, supporters and alumni, including myself, are extremely proud of their championship caliber basketball program.”
On April 1st, 2010 the University of Dayton Men’s Basketball Team defeated the University of North Carolina 79 to 68 in the National Invitational Tournament Championship game. The team’s NIT Championship win was its third in school history.
In addition to its success on the court, the men’s basketball program has graduated every senior student-athlete since Brian Gregory was named head coach in 2003, including seven players this season. The University of Dayton consistently ranks high nationally in student-athlete graduation rates.
