Congressman Mike Turner, Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, released the following statement as President Barack Obama offered a proposal on averting the sequestration cuts to our nation’s military:
“The President’s plan for sequestration has left our nation’s military and the supporting defense industry with an uncertain future. I voted against his proposed plan to further slash our national security spending by $500 billion, because we cannot afford to gamble with the defense of our nation. Our military leaders in the Pentagon have been warning Congress and the President that these cuts would be ‘devastating.’ Finally, the President has decided to come to the table to avert these cuts. However, he will have to provide a more serious proposal than warmed over tax increases to fix this mess. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress and the President as we seek a solution to sequestration.
