Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) released the following statement after voting in favor of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA):

“Since I have been in Congress, I have consistently supported the reauthorization of VAWA. The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act provides crucial grants to combat crimes of domestic violence and sexual assault. An amendment I cosponsored that was included in the bill directs the Department of Justice to study and recommend improvements to sexual violence data collection and coordination. Improved coordination of data-gathering among current sexual violence reporting platforms will help legislators better combat the problem.

While this was not a perfect bill, I strongly believe we cannot let the grant programs under VAWA lapse in authorization. I look forward to working with the Senate to ensure a strong bipartisan bill is swiftly sent to the President’s desk for approval.”
