Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) released the following statement on President Biden's decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan by September 11th:
"President Biden's conditions-free withdraw of U.S. troops from Afghanistan is irresponsible, completely arbitrary, and will almost certainly lead to greater unrest and violence in an already fragile country—much like the premature withdrawal of our forces from Iraq in 2011 did under Obama," said Turner. "This hasty decision has been warned against by both Democrats and Republicans as well as by military and intelligence experts since it will only solidify the need for our military presence in this country again in the future. Ultimately, this choice makes America and the world less safe and I urge President Biden to reconsider."
Rep. Mike Turner is a senior Republican member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and Ranking member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces. Rep. Turner has visited Afghanistan several times, including as recently as 2019.
