Dayton, OH - Today, Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) attended the Montgomery County Environmental Services' groundbreaking ceremony for the Sewer Modernization and Replacement Tunnel (SMART) project. After the event concluded, Congressman Turner released the following statement:
"The SMART project will restore existing infrastructure in Montgomery County and improve our local environment. This would not be possible without collaboration between our local, state and federal governments and I am thankful to have played a part in it."
The SMART project will improve current water treatment infrastructure and will create a new pump station which will direct wastewater to the Western Regional Water Reclamation Facility and then back into local rivers once properly treated. The $65 million project will create 100 jobs in the local area and is expected to be completed by 2024.
