DAYTON, OHIO – Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10), Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and a senior member of the House Committee on Armed Services, was joined by the Dayton Development Coalition in making an announcement regarding recent and future job growth at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB). Congressman Turner held a press conference at the National Museum of the Air Force to celebrate WPAFB reaching the milestone of 38,000 military, civilian, and contractor personnel inside the fence.

During the announcement, Congressman Turner presented the Congressional Award for Community Development to Jeff Hoagland, President and CEO of the Dayton Development Coalition, for his contributions to the growth of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

“This is a great day because this is a celebration. We get to celebrate something that is not just a milestone, it’s a historic milestone, and each and every one of you had a part of this,” said Congressman Mike Turner. “The Miami Valley has made an unbelievable contribution to the missions and the essential aspect of our national security. Growth here is a growth in our national security and ensuring our democracy and our legacy. Today, we are celebrating the milestone that Wright-Patterson Air Force Base has doubled. Inside the fence today, when people go to work, 38,000 people work inside the fence. As I was saying before, this is a group project. Each and every one of you had a piece of this. As a community, we didn’t just envision it. We didn’t just say we’re going to individually do it. We did it as a collective. We prepared for the growth of missions here, but we also prepared to host additional missions, and we’re not going to stop. We still have opportunities for this base to grow.”

“Our federal installations generate more than $16 billion in economic activity in our region, supporting more than 100,000 jobs,” said Jeff Hoagland, President and CEO of the Dayton Development Coalition. “WPAFB is the heart of our regional economy, and its job growth has a ripple effect across our community that goes beyond economic impact. These jobs provide economic stability for our entire region.”
