Under the program, nearly 20,000 Haitians have relocated to Springfield, Ohio, in recent years
DAYTON, OHIO – Today, Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) issued the following statement after the Biden-Harris Administration announced it was pausing its importation program, which brought 30,000 nationals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela (CHNV) to the United States each month:
“This illegal DHS program has brought more than 15,000 Haitian migrants to Springfield, Ohio, a city of less than 60,000, in recent years. The influx has placed tremendous strain on city and county resources and services, with DHS ignoring the havoc their policies have caused. I will continue to work with Springfield officials to identify additional assistance to mitigate the impact the rapid growth in population has caused on the community at large.”
Background:
In February 2024, Congressman Turner and Congressman Mike Carey sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas seeking answers about the Haitian Parole Program’s processes.
In June 2024, Congressman Turner urged the Biden Administration to address its Haitian Migrant Parole Program on the House Floor.
