"The potential cuts would be from a current treaty limit of 1,550 deployed strategic warheads. A level of 300 deployed strategic nuclear weapons would take the U.S. back to levels not seen since 1950 when the nation was ramping up production in an arms race with the Soviet Union….

"Rep. Michael Turner, R-Ohio, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee's strategic forces subcommittee, unsuccessfully pressed Miller for key details about his policy review. As recently as last month Turner said in an interview that he feared the administration was bent on cutting the force….

The Christmas season offers many opportunities to take part in holiday traditions which carry a great deal of meaning for many Americans. Each year, Americans from around the country gather in our Nation's Capital to celebrate the season at two prominent holiday events at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. The lighting of the United States Capitol Christmas tree is an annual custom that symbolizes the national importance of the Christmas season. This popular holiday tradition originated on Christmas Eve 1913, when a 40-foot Christmas tree was placed on the East Front of the Capitol.

Today, the House passed Congressman Mike Turner's language in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which requires the Secretary of Defense to notify Congress if he determines there is widespread interference with the military's use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) caused by a commercial communications service. The language states that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) shall not provide final authorization for LightSquared operations until Defense Department concerns about GPS interference have been resolved.

By Congressman Michael Turner Weekly Column In August of this year, Congress approved and the President signed, the Budget Control Act of 2011. This law, which I opposed, created a Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction empowered to find budget savings of $1.2 trillion in order to increase the debt limit to $17 trillion. If the "supercommittee," comprised of a bipartisan number of House and Senate Members, failed then sequestration cuts would be put in place. These draconian cuts were to act as a deterrent to the supercommittee failing to complete its task.

On Friday November 11th, Americans around the globe will pause to honor the service of our nation's veterans. This annual observance, with roots from the end of the First World War, is an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the efforts of our men and women in uniform to preserve the ideals of freedom and liberty that this country was founded upon. Ohio is home to over 900,000 veterans, and our state has a rich history of uniformed service throughout times of war and peace.

Hardworking taxpayers across Southwest Ohio have made it clear that their top concern is job creation; it's my top concern as well. With unemployment approaching 13 percent in some areas of the Third Congressional District, we need to be undertaking a robust effort to provide incentives for job creation. That's why I remain disappointed that not only has the Senate failed to pass a budget in over 900 days, but has also allowed 15 key bills to languish as Ohioans remain unemployed.

When the U.S. Government took over General Motors, the Administration made a decision that resulted in approximately 20,000 current and future salaried Delphi retirees from across the country taking a severe cut of up to 70 percent in their promised pension benefits earned throughout their careers. This action undertaken with taxpayer funds has not been explained or justified. At my request, on November 14th, Delphi retirees from our community will have the opportunity to tell their stories before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee (OGR). .
