The upcoming Thanksgiving holiday is a special time for American families. It is important that we take the opportunity, particularly in these difficult times, to remind ourselves of the many blessings we have in our lives.

Like so many people, I am most thankful for my family. My wife, Lori, and my two daughters, Jessica and Carolyn, are tremendous sources of pride and support. As the holiday season begins, families across the nation will gather together for the Thanksgiving holiday. I hope all of you will pause to give thanks for the friends and family members in your life.

I also want to give thanks to the people of the Third Congressional District of Ohio for allowing me to continue to serve as your advocate in Washington for a fourth consecutive term. I consider it a privilege to serve the citizens of our community. Serious issues face our region and our country.  I am committed to working on a bipartisan basis to protect our country, improve our economy, and promote the interests of Clinton, Highland, Warren and Montgomery Counties.

We all owe our thanks to the brave men and women in our Armed Forces who fearlessly and selflessly serve our nation. Our troops serving in Afghanistan, Iraq, and throughout the world protect our freedoms and keep our country safer. As you travel this holiday season and see a member of our Armed Forces, please be sure to tell them how much you appreciate their courage and dedication to duty. It is because of their sacrifice that we have all the freedoms we enjoy on a daily basis.

Our country just experienced an extraordinary and historic election. Candidates for races at all levels of government debated about which policies are best for our future and many millions of Americans participated in the democratic process in a variety of ways. Over 125 million Americans cast their ballots to decide who would represent them in Washington. Now that the time to choose our leaders has passed, it is important that we all unify as Americans and focus on what is best for our country. Though the economic challenges facing our community and our nation are very serious, I am confident that we are capable of working together to find solutions to these problems.

The Thanksgiving holiday is a uniquely American tradition that honors our nation’s rich heritage. As Americans we have much to be thankful for. Our history of democracy has established a nation that respects the rights of individuals and protects justice. Thanks to the service and sacrifice of many, we are able to celebrate Thanksgiving with our friends and family in freedom.
