Dayton, OH - Today, Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) participated in the grand opening of McBride Place, the newest affordable housing community open to veterans and civilians on Dayton's VA Campus. In 2021, Turner secured $456,500 in federal grant funding for the St. Mary Development Corporation and helped the project developer navigate federal deadlines and requirements for the project.
"In 2018, I began actively working with the St. Mary Development Corporation to assist with the completion of the McBride Place," said Turner. "From working with officials at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to securing federal funds for the project, I am excited to see this project come to fruition. The veterans and senior residents of Dayton deserve to have an affordable place to live."
Background:
Without the support of Congressman Turner, affordable housing centers like the McBride Place and the Lyons Place II would not have been completed.
Following Turner's assistance with the Lyons Place in 2014, St. Mary Development Corporation reached out to Congressman Turner for assistance with the development of the McBride Place in 2018. Working directly with the VA Enhanced-Use Lease office, Turner was able assist with the approval of the sublease for the property.
In addition, when amendments needed to be made to the lease, Turner worked with HUD to see that this was done in an expeditious manner. Turner's dedication and attentiveness to the projection helped project managers meet deadlines and lower construction costs.
About the Center:
The McBride Place is named after St. Mary Development Corporation founder Richard (Dick) McBride. McBride Place is a low-income housing facility with a preference for veterans who wish to reside on the VAMC campus. It houses 64 units; 59 one-bedroom units and 5 two-bedroom units serving seniors 55 and above.
