DAYTON, OHIO – Today, Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) announced that more than $275,000 in federal funds has been awarded to local fire departments in the Miami Valley. Xenia Township and New Jasper Township, both located in Turner’s district, were allocated funds under the Department of Homeland Security’s Fiscal Year 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program.

“Xenia and its surrounding townships are home to many of the Miami Valley’s finest first responders, and the tremendous sacrifices that they make for our community do not go unnoticed,” said Congressman Mike Turner. “I am pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded these funds to support our firefighters, and I will continue my advocacy for the Miami Valley’s fire and EMS departments.”

FY23 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program Awards:

Xenia Township: $226,037.14

New Jasper Township: $52,714.28

Total Funding Secured for Local Fire Departments: $278,751.42

Background:

AFG awards are administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Fire Administration. The grants are used to fund critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel, enhance efficiencies and support community resilience.

Since 2015, more than $11 million has been awarded from the AFG to fire and EMS departments in the Dayton area.
