Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced it is sending $3,851,650 in grants under their Grant Per Diem (GPD) Program to organizations in Congressman Mike Turner's (OH-10) district to fund transitional housing and supportive services for veterans. The organizations being granted this significant funding to combat veteran homelessness in the Miami Valley are St. Vincent de Paul Social Services in Montgomery and Greene Counties, as well as Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio in Montgomery County.

Today, Rep. Mike Turner (OH-10) wrote to the Postmaster General requesting the United States Postal Service (USPS) coordinate with the State of Ohio to prepare for an increase of absentee and mail-in ballots resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Voting is a cornerstone of democracy. It is important that the Postmaster General and USPS respond to the challenges caused by the pandemic in order to protect our right to vote," said Turner. "That is why I am urging the USPS to prepare for the increased amount of mail in ballots that will likely be sent this election season."

Earlier this week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded Messer Construction a $126 million contract to for the final phase of construction on the new Intelligence Production Complex at Wright Patterson Air Force Base's National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC). This award follows Congressman Mike Turner's (OH-10) continued advocacy for military construction funding for NASIC in the 2019 and 2020 National Defense Authorization Acts (NDAA).

Earlier this week, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development announced their distribution of CARES Act funding to the Ohio Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program to assist various local housing authorities. Greater Dayton Premier Management, Greene Metropolitan Housing Authority, and the Fayette Metropolitan Housing Authority are all to receive grants totaling $877,536 to help citizens receiving HCVs navigate the economic hardships resulting from the Coronavirus pandemic. The HCV funding is a result of Rep. Mike Turner's (OH-10) support of the CARES Act.

Earlier this week, Reps. Mike Turner (OH-10) and Anthony Brown (MD-4) sent bipartisan letters to the Superintendents of the service academies regarding actions each academy has taken to address racism within their ranks. This inquiry follows Turner and Brown's inclusion of the PANORAMA Act in this year's National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The PANORAMA Act increases Congress and the service academies' ability to appoint a student body that represents the diversity of our nation.

Yesterday Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) joined as an original cosponsor to a bipartisan resolution to observe August 30, 2020 as the 130th anniversary of historically black 1890 Land-Grant Institutions. Central State University is one of the 19 colleges created from the Second Morrill Act of 1890.

Earlier today, the Senate hosted a hearing on Honorable Michael J. Newman's appointment to the United States District Court in Southern Ohio. Judge Newman lives in Dayton and has long served the legal community in southwest Ohio. This hearing follows support and reference from Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10), who helped recommend Judge Newman for the position.

Last week, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base advanced to the evaluation phase of the process to hosting the US Space Command. Wright-Patt's advancement comes as a result of Congressman Mike Turner's (OH-10) advocacy in Congress to increase the base's growth and funding.
