U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Congressman Mike Turner (R-OH) are leading a bicameral, bipartisan letter to Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) and Congressman Darell Issa (R-CA), Chairmen of the Senate and House Oversight Committees respectively, urging them to continue their Committees' examinations of matters pertaining to the unjust termination of Delphi salaried retiree pensions.
Today, U.S. Senators Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine.) and U.S. Representatives Mike Turner (R-Ohio) and Niki Tsongas (D-Mass.) introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to combat sexual assaults in the military by better holding perpetrators accountable and better protecting survivors. The updated version of the group's legislation includes additional provisions to protect and enhance the rights of victims. The lawmakers are working to include the legislation in this year's National Defense Authorization Act.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Thursday called the rise of sexual assaults in the military "a national disgrace" and praised efforts underway in Congress to address the problem.
"It's outrageous, and frankly, it's a national disgrace," Boehner said at a press conference.
Boehner praised the work of House Armed Services Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) and Rep. Michael Turner (R-Ohio) to shine a light on the problem in the Pentagon over the last two years.

Lawmakers last year gave the military the benefit of the doubt that its leaders were working hard to stop the epidemic of sexual assault within their ranks, opting for a package of modest changes over far more controversial proposals that had drawn staunch opposition from the Pentagon.
This year is a different story altogether.
The news on military sexual assault has gone from bad to worse to unbelievable over the past two weeks after two sexual-assault-prevention officials were themselves charged with assault. A third was arrested last week in a domestic dispute and relieved of his command.

"A lower-level chain of command decision can result in extreme bias and extreme pressure," Turner said in an interview in his Capitol Hill office.
Turner favors legislation that would move the adjudication decision on sexual assault to higher-ranking military officers then hold them to account if the cases are not handled properly.
"As we elevate up the chain of command and institute an accountability for the person that has that responsibility, their performance, their review, their promotions, should be decided based on their handling of these cases, instead of the silence these cases had before,"
Turner said.
